okay, look
i know it kind of hurts to imagine hinata willingly going through with the hope cultivation project because he seems like a guy that wouldn’t do something stupid like that, and it’s easy to theorize “well clearly he didn’t know the full extent of what was going to happen!”
but that really undermines his character and downplays exactly how poisonous his mindset regarding talent is
yes, in the final trial he had a “what the fuck i would never do that” moment, but that’s because this hinata spent weeks believing he had a talent
real world hinata, pre-kamukura hinata, spent his entire life NOT having a talent
he was desperate and obsessed with the idea of finally being special
finally being worth something
so desperate and obsessed that he agreed to undergo high-risk surgery that, if failed, could have ruined him forever
that is hinata’s mindset involving talent
does it change? of course, because he grows and develops over the course of the game due to believing he had a talent all along, then in the final trial accepting who he was and what he had done and choosing to live on as his “talentless” self, because being talented means less to him now
but all these theories trying to make hinata look like a victim are really trying on my nerves
