he has this habit of looking up at the sky whenever he loses something ever since he lost his mother, the opposite of “The winner with his head raised to the sky and the loser bitterly facing the ground.” after his encounter with Onoda it becomes clear that he associates "his head raised to the sky" with the memory of his mother.. .so…
